Sierra Club — Here's ANOTHER great (and $$$-saving!) reason to join!!! The club's flagship is the Clair Tappaan Lodge, a 45-minute drive west of Reno, Nevada. Open year-around, it offers hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. (Rental skis are available on site and there is downhill skiing nearby.) The lodge sleeps up to 140 guests, all in bunk beds, which can be found in two-person cubicles and larger group rooms. Meals in the communal dining room are included. This year's trip week long trip to Patagonia is packed with activities, including white-water rafting, mountain-biking and canyoning. Solo particulars: "We don't have actual statistics, but would estimate our single travelers to represent about 30% of our total travelers. We usually have several singles on every trip."
