Planning to travel abroad this summer? Credit card users — BEWARE!

Part of packing for your trip should include discovering the fees your credit card packs!

Credit card fees are going up. Before you tuck one into your purse or wallet — and to minimize unpleasant surprises when bills follow you home — find out the following:

* What's your credit card's "transaction fee" — the fee that attaches to all purchases in another country?

* Will another card give you a better deal?

AND be aware of the following:

Some international merchants are employing new technology — "dynamic currency conversion" — that will tell you what that cost of an item or service will cost you in U.S. dollars. This convenience will cost you an average of 2% to 3% in merchant imposed fees — and to top it off, your credit card issuer may levy its own fees.
